The Pig and The Porcupine

the pig and the porcupine

Pig and Porcupine made three dollars each, working one afternoon for Mr. Goose. Soon, they were done.

“We had better hold on to our money,” said Porcupine. “Each of us has three dollars now. We should save our money.”

“Or,” Pig said, “we could run by the market and buy some warm sweet rolls on the way home.”

Porcupine thought for a moment. “We could do that,” he said. “They only cost one dollar.”

Pig smiled. “We would still find ourselves with two dollars each,” Pig said.

Porcupine smiled, too. “Those warm sweet rolls are very good.”

Pig and Porcupine headed for the market. They could almost smell the delicious sweet rolls in the open air as they walked and walked. They became hungrier and hungrier.

“What will you do with your other two dollars?” Porcupine asked Pig.

“I will buy a new game for my room,” Pig said. “What will you buy with your two dollars?”

“I will buy that funny joke book I have wanted for months,” Porcupine said.

“I am so glad that Mr. Goose gave us three dollars,” Pig said.

“I am so glad Mr. Goose gave us jobs,” Porcupine said.

At last, Pig and Porcupine reached the market. After all the walking, and all the dreaming about the sweet rolls, by the time they reached the baker, they were hungrier than they ever remembered.

Pig and Porcupine each gave the baker one dollar, and collected one roll each. Then they each ate their rolls. They ate their sweet rolls too fast.

“Are you full?” Porcupine said to Pig.

“No,” Pig said.

“Er,” Porcupine said. “Do you want to buy another roll?”

“Yes!” Pig shouted.

So they each gave the baker another dollar, and they each got another sweet roll.

Once again, they ate them too fast.

“Are you full?” Porcupine said to Pig.

“No,” Pig said.

“Er,” Porcupine said. “Do you want to buy another roll?”

“Yes!” Pig shouted.

So they each gave the baker another dollar, and they each got another sweet roll.

Now, Pig and Porcupine were so full they could hardly move.

“Do you know what is not full anymore?” Porcupine said sadly to Pig.

“Our pockets,” Pig said sadly to Porcupine.

“Next time,” Porcupine said to Pig, “let us bring a lunch.”

“Good idea,” Pig said, and together they walked home, tummies too full.

THE END.
