An ingredient we ALL usually have on hand.

The Crunch Bunch.

Annie Bushey, at age 6 -- her favorite do-it-yourself snack.

(Must have adult supervision  for this.)

Ingredients:

  • Bread
  • Butter or olive oil
  • Tuna fish, cream cheese, peanut butter, or your child’s favorite topping.

Equipment

  • Cookie cutters
  • Cookie sheet
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°. (If you plan on letting your child butter the shapes, you may want to pre-soften the butter, too.)
  2. Using several slices of bread (whole wheat is a favorite in our house), cut out several fun shapes with your cookie cutters. (The smaller the cookie cutters, the less bread you’ll use.)
  3. Place the shapes on the cookie sheet, lined with foil (saves cleanup).
  4. LIGHTLY butter the shapes OR drizzle LIGHTLY with olive oil.
  5. Toast gently in the oven.
  6. Top with child’s favorite topping. The most fun is to have it in a bowl and let your child prepare it himself or herself – then he or she really feels like a cook.
