Costume: Octopus

OCTOPUS

octo3This costume only LOOKS hard. Especially if you know your way around a glue gun.

You need:

  • About three yards of polar fleece. I always like to make costumes warm enough so you don’t need to cover them with a coat.
  • A few sheets of contrasting-colored felt
  • Two sheets of white felt, one sheet of black, for the large eyes.
  • A glue gun, and LOTS of glue sticks.
  • Stuffing, for the six arms that do NOT belong to your child.

FIRST:

octo41Make a sort of jumper.
(NOT a sweater, but rather an American jumper, like the picture to the left.)

This is your first layer. It can be any color.

NEXT:

octo2Make two “gauntlets,” to fit your child, and glue gun “suction cups” to the arms.

While you’re at it, make six more – but this time, seal up one side, and stuff them lightly. Leave them open at one end.

NEXT: Fashion a sort of “hood,” and to that hood, attach the six stuffed “arms” you just made.

Cut out two large, white circles. If you cut them at the same time, they’ll be the same size, & it’s less work.

Do the same – only smaller – for the black inner pupils.

Attach them to either side of the hood, near the opening you’ve cut out to JUST fit the face.

You’re DONE!
